Event Centre Satama – where the worlds meet.
Event Centre Satama is a new, inspiring venue in the Kantasatama port area in Kotka, South-East Finland. The Event Centre will open its doors in August, 2023. Throughout its history, the legendary Kantasatama area has been an important meeting place. New, modern and innovative, Event Centre Satama will continue the story of Kantasatama and promote the sense of community of the historic place. Together with Maritime Centre Vellamo and a new university campus, Event Centre Satama forms an exciting centre of events, learning and creativity.
Event Centre Satama is operated by Event Centre Kotka Ltd, which is part of the Kotka City Group. The project developer is Backstaff Oy, a subsidiary of city-owned real estate company Kotkan Julkiset Kiinteistöt Oy, and the contractor is SRV Group. The Event Centre’s catering services are provided by Compass Group Finland, and technical services by Rajupaja (in Finnish).
Unique architecture
Event Centre Satama’s unique architecture is the work of ALA Architects. The zinc-clad wooden building houses a vast multipurpose hall and a large lobby space covered by a sail-like roof structure. The northernmost edge of the elegantly sloping roof reaches down nearly to the ground, almost allowing the visitor to touch its dependable wooden surface. The beautiful lobby space invites visitors in to find shelter from the cold harbour winds.

How many kilometres of wood does it take to create the sail-like roof structure of Event Centre Satama? From August 2023, the fascinating features of this unique venue can be explored with a guide.
