The new event centre to be built in the Kotka City Port now has a name: Satama Areena (harbour arena in English). The name was chosen from among as many as 89 entries submitted by students and alumni of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) in a naming contest. The winning suggestion, Satama Areena, came from Xamk alumna Henna Vertainen.
Managing Director Minna Nyman commends the familiarity and accessibility of the name. On the other hand, it invites inspiring imaginations of future events, big and small. “Satama Areena congratulates Henna for her insightful idea”, says Nyman with a smile.
Nyman highlights the importance of the harbour as a source of affluence and employment for the people of Kotka throughout its history. “The chosen name links the event centre closely with Kotka and its identity. It ties the building to Kotka’s modern architecture, while retaining the historic and maritime atmosphere of the city”, Nyman explains. “Kotka is known for its harbours. We can proudly say that the new event centre honours and strengthens true Kotka values.”
The English name of the venue is Event Centre Satama.
